The Committee for Editorial Independence is the initiator of a survey of public attitudes towards media independence in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. The survey was conducted in cooperation with the Czech National Committee of the International Press Institute and supported by the Bakala Foundation. The complete survey results and a recording from a discussion with the pollsters, journalists and experts, which took place on April 26, 2022, are available at www.mediafreedompoll.com.

The survey provides unique data on the current attitudes of the population of the Visegrad Four countries. This is the first comprehensive survey on the subject in the region to find out how citizens assess the development and current state of media freedom in their countries, how they perceive it compared to neighbouring countries, whether they are concerned about threats to media freedom, how they approach issues of interference of media owners with editorial autonomy or the government’s influence on the broadcasting of public service media, or what measures they support to protect media freedom.
